Welcome to Ed Clarke's Public Goods Applications Page

This Page describes interesting applications of the demand revealing processes. Applications include:

Global Public Goods

The UNDP recently issued a report on "Global Public Goods", emphasizing the importance of incentive compatible decision techniques in the management of global externalities.
(See, in particular, section on "closing the incentive gap").
Two related papers describe the employment of these techniques in global management institutions. See Links below to papers by Nicolaus Tideman and Falkinger, Hackl, and Pruckner: "A Fair Mechanism for Efficient Reduction of Global CO2 Emissions".

Information Technology Management

A report by the U. S. Office of Management and Budget describes the potential use of demand revealing for information technology budgeting as well as government standard setting. An evaluation of comments on the use of the method. See link to "Demand Revelation and Information Technology Management" below.

Aviation Management

A paper describing use of the technique for managing airport congestion and noise. Brough, Clarke and Tideman: "Airport Congestion and Noise: Interplay of Allocation and Distribution". (See Links below).

Government Planning, Budgeting and Regulation

A paper describing the use of demand revealing in Governmental planning and budgeting involving trust funds for transportation and the environment. Clarke: "Incentive Compatible Planning and Budgeting of ‘Distributive' Federal Programs" (See link below).
